Other organisations
Whilst Cancer Research UK are the major beneficiary of the Dallaglio Foundation’s fundraising initiatives in the first year, the Foundation has also pledged to support a number of other charities through various fundraising events.
The Dallaglio Cycle Slam, which took place across Europe throughout February and March 2010, was organised by Sport Relief and the Dallaglio Foundation, with the proceeds being split between the two. The Foundation's share of the money raised benefitted a number of very worthwhile organisations, including:
- Help for Heroes: a charity for the wounded in Britain’s current conflicts - www.helpforheroes.org.uk
- RPA Benevolent Fund: provides financial support for players who have been forced to retire from the game due to serious injury - www.therpa.co.uk/benevolentfund
- Leukaemia Research: the only charity in the UK dedicated exclusively to researching blood cancers and disorders including leukaemia, Hodgkin’s and other lymphomas, and myeloma - www.lrf.org.uk
- DebRA: working on behalf of people in the UK with the genetic skin blistering condition Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) - www.debra.org.uk
- Cancer Research UK: the Foundation's major beneficiary.
Lawrence also enjoyed a long-standing role as the Honorary President of the Wooden Spoon (Middlesex) charity, which is dedicated to helping underprivileged children and young people all over the UK and Ireland to live happier, richer lives.
