Cancer Research UK
Cancer Research UK is delighted to be partnered with the Dallaglio Foundation in its very first year. Sadly, one in three of us will develop cancer at some stage in our lives; one in four of us will die from the disease. Cancer affects us all.
Cancer Research UK is the largest funder of research into the causes and treatment of cancer, outside of the USA, spending over £330 million every year. We currently fund over 4,500 doctors, nurses and scientists working across the UK.
Cancer Research UK Clinical Fellows
A significant obstacle to more rapid progress in the fight against cancer is the lack of suitably qualified individuals who can form the bridge between discoveries made in the laboratory to changes in clinical practice. Ideally, these individuals are clinician scientists - qualified doctors who are cancer specialists, but who can also understand the language, process and rigour of science.
Cancer Research UK is establishing ambitious Clinical Research Training Fellowships at Cancer Research UK Centres. Each clinician scientist will undergo an extensive three year training programme, whilst still continuing to treat cancer patients. By being at the forefront of research, our Clinical Fellows are able to make sure that their cancer patients are receiving state-of-the-art treatment, whether through new drugs, better radiation treatments or better surgical techniques. The Dallaglio Foundation will be supporting the funding and training of the Clinical Fellows.
“Clinical Fellows are crucial to the goals of Cancer Research UK. They are a key link between our laboratories and the clinic, and bridge the gap between our scientists and cancer patients. Clinical Fellows are helping to run many trials to test new types of treatments, and where they are involved we find that the trials run much faster and better.” Harpal Kumar, Chief Executive, Cancer Research UK
